Hans Jenny (art historian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Jenny (also Hans Jenny-Kappers , born June 30, 1894 in Niederurnen , † August 7, 1942 in Zurich ) was a Swiss art historian . As the son of Conrad and Albertina Jenny-Jenny, he grew up in the Jenny-Schloss Thalwil.

In 1934 Jenny published the first edition of the Swiss Art Guide . This art guide was a handbook that primarily took into account architecture and monuments. Like the Dehio Handbook , it is a pioneering work and an important basis for general art topography . The art guide has been reprinted several times, up to the present day.

Jenny was self-taught because he was unable to study properly due to health problems. In 1934 he married Theodora Ariens Kappers from the Netherlands. From 1935 Jenny was an assistant at the graphic collection of the ETH Zurich .

His estate is in the Glarus State Archives .
