Hans Lembke (born May 28, 1877 in Malchow on Poel ; † March 7, 1966 in Rostock ) was a plant breeder, landowner and professor of plant breeding at the University of Rostock . He first bred frost-resistant arable crops, rape and turnip rape, as well as red clover , various types of grass, winter wheat , oats and potatoes . From 1920 he specialized in the breeding of new potato varieties, which soon gained economic importance. In 1925 he was awarded his first honorary doctorate from the University of Rostock. After 1945 he was first expropriated and then appointed as head of his former seed breeding business. In 1946 he was appointed professor with a teaching position for plant breeding at the University of Rostock. In 1952 he received the chair for plant breeding and in 1958 he retired. In 1959 he was awarded the Justus von Liebig Prize .

Lembke was with Luise (1879–1942), b. Wesenberg, married and had four children, including the agricultural historian Gertrud Schröder-Lembke (1908-2006).
