Hans Leo of Oppell

Hans Leo von Oppell (born August 8, 1846 in Dresden , † July 19, 1915 in Friedersdorf an der Spree ) was a Saxon chamberlain and captain .

Hans Leo, who came from the noble family of Oppell , was the son of the Dresden police director Hans Ludwig von Oppell , who also founded the Hechtviertel . His mother was Susanna Maximiliana geb. Baroness von Werthern (1813–1888).

From 1864 he did his military service. In 1874 he was captain and squadron chief. He retired from military service in 1891. In that year he was the royal Saxon chamberlain. Hans Leo von Oppell died in Friedersdorf in 1915. He was buried in the family grave in the Neustädter Friedhof in Dresden.

In 1876 he married Marie Louise Margarethe Freiin Dathe von Burgk. They had five children together:

  • Hans Christoph (* 1883, died prematurely)
  • Hans Adolf (* 1888)
  • Hans Werner (* 1892)
  • Susanna Marta Louise (born October 10, 1877)
  • Charlotte Caroline Margarethe (* 1879).

In the year after the wedding, in 1877, he and his family acquired the Niederfriedersdorf manor . After living in the old manor house of the manor for several years, he built the new Friedersdorf Castle from 1887 to 1889 .

Von Oppell was a member of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences .
