Hans Lucas

Hans Lucas (born August 10, 1865 in Konitz , West Prussia , † March 10, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher .

After attending the Kaiserin Augusta-Gymnasium in Charlottenburg , Lucas studied classical philology, archeology and history at the University of Berlin from 1886 . In 1893 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Theognis von Megara . In 1893 he passed the teacher's exam and then completed the seminar year at the Royal Wilhelms-Gymnasium in Berlin and the probationary year at the Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster . 1897–98 he toured Italy and Greece with the travel grant of the German Archaeological Institute . He then taught for two years at a private school, then at the Progymnasium in Rixdorf . From 1902 he worked as a teacher at the Kaiser Wilhelms-Realgymnasium in Berlin. In 1924 he took temporary retirement , in 1930 he was finally retired.

Lucas published first in the archaeological field, later on ancient philological topics.
