Hans Mieskes

Hans (Johann) Mieskes (born February 17, 1915 in Zeiden , Transylvania , † July 20, 2006 in Gießen ) was a German educationalist.

Life

After attending school in Kronstadt and training at the Evangelical Theological Teachers' College in Sibiu , Hans Mieskes studied in Jena , completed a degree in theology and received his doctorate in educational science under Peter Petersen in 1941 on “The people's own school. Basic questions of a new ethnic German educational science and pedagogy (presented for Transylvania) ”. The habilitation in educational science took place in 1946 at Petersen in Jena. Hans Mieskes was deputy head of the university school, which was closed in 1950 by the Thuringian Minister for Public Education, Marie Torhorst . He built in Jena an important educational counseling center, fled in 1956 to the West and graduated in 1959 in Munich , the study of medicine from. In the same year he became head of the study office for youth issues, Bonn , in 1961 he was appointed to the chair of educational science at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , where he retired in 1981.

After Hans Mieskes was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 2001, a controversy arose within the ethnic group of the Transylvanian Saxons in Germany, to which he remained lifelong, due to his work as an assistant at the University of Prague from 1942 to 1945. Mieskes' boss at the Reich University in Prague was Professor of Social and Ethnic Psychology (Co-Director for European Ethnology and Ethnology of the Reinhard Heydrich Foundation ), Rudolf Hippius, who was appointed there in 1942 from the Reich University of Poznan . Its research was in the service of the spatial and settlement policy of the SS in the occupied eastern territories. The role of Hans Mieskes in this is still unclear.
