Hans Pfohe

Hans Pfohe (born August 19, 1918 in Chemnitz , † November 27, 2004 in Lüneburg ) was a German entrepreneur, founder of the Lucia knitwear factory and holder of the Federal Order of Merit . He is considered one of the fathers of the German economic miracle .

Pfohe graduated from high school in Chemnitz and was deployed as a lieutenant in the Africa Corps during World War II . He was taken prisoner by the United States and spent several years in the US state of Colorado . In 1946 Pfohe came to Lüneburg and founded the Lucia company , named after his wife, which manufactured high-quality knitwear . He married Lucia in 1948. In 1971 the company became a public company . He was one of the first employees to introduce profit-sharing schemes and build company kindergartens. The Lucia company had up to 1450 in the 1970sEmployees . Pfohe was known to pay almost all of its investments from its own pocket and no credit record banks.

From 1959 to 1982 he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Assembly. In 1995 Pfohe was awarded the Federal Order of Merit and in 1998, together with his wife, an honorary citizen of the city of Lüneburg.

Pfohe had four children.
