Hans Richert

Hans Richert (born December 21, 1869 in Köslin / Pomerania ; † September 25, 1940 in Berlin ) was a German school reformer , teacher, headmaster and philosopher.

Live and act

During his studies, Richert became a member of the Association of German Students in Greifswald . In 1920 he published the book The German Educational Unit and the Higher School , which formed the basis of a Prussian school reform ( Richertsche Gymnasialreform ). On September 18, 1923 he was appointed Ministerialrat. In 1924/25 he played a key role in reforming the higher education system. His name is associated with the new "German Oberschule", which instead of the old languages ​​put the focus on the mother tongue. The "cultural subjects" German, history, civics , religion and geography were common to all higher schools. In 1933 he submitted his resignation, disappointed about the Nazi cultural policy. He was a member and leading education politician of the DVP . From 1919 to 1921 he was a member of the Prussian State Constitutional Assembly .
