Hans Schott-Schöbinger

Hans Schott-Schöbinger (aka Hanns Schott-Schöbinger), (born December 18, 1901 in Andritz , now in Graz , † July 28, 1984 in Schwoich ; born Johann Schöbinger ) was an Austrian actor and film director .

He was the illegitimate son of a housekeeper and laundress as well as a furniture maker. After taking acting lessons in Graz, he made his debut as Hans Schöbinger in 1920 at the Stadttheater St. Pölten . He then played on stages in Vienna, especially at the Theater in der Josefstadt and at the Wiener Kammerspiele . There he was director for five years. He played the title character in the new Winnetou production in Vienna in 1931.

On April 17, 1942, the opening of the revue "Ringstrasse Melodie" by Hanns Schott-Schöbinger and Rudolf Weys took place in the Vienna Citizens' Theater . Schott-Schöbinger played the leading role, with audience favorites such as Hans Olden , Mimi Shorp and Lia Lange playing alongside him . Despite negative reviews, the piece enjoyed great popularity; in September 1942 the press reported almost 200 en-suite performances.

From 1936 to 1944 he could be seen in films, where he initially took on larger, but later only minor roles. After the end of the war, he made several cultural films as a director for the Klagenfurt production company Carinthia-Filmkunst .

Schott-Schöbinger became managing director and director of AFA film production and head of the Munich distribution company Defir, which he headed until 1958. In the 1950s, he directed several short documentaries, some comedies and homeland films and wrote the synopsis for the film Das Mädchen vom Pfarrhof (1955). He last directed educational films in the 1960s .
