history

Settlement of the municipality began as early as the middle of the 6th century. The name Schwoich is mentioned for the first time in a traditional note from 1155/56 of the wealthy Baumburg monastery as "in loco qui dicitur Sevvevhen" . In 1280 the names "Swiuch" and "Schweng" were used, which indicates the mossy subsoil in parts of the place. This is also the reason for the largest occurrence of blueberries, the so-called "cranberries", which Schwoich made famous in the surrounding area.

As early as 1841 cement was burned by Franz Kink in the so-called “Russia”, the coat of arms of the community underlines this with a kiln on a blue background. This makes Schwoich the birthplace of the Austrian cement industry.
