Franz Kink

Franz Kink (born October 4, 1790 in Bozen , South Tyrol; † November 18, 1862 in Kufstein ) was an Austrian pioneer in cement production .

Life

Franz Kink became road foreman in Kufstein in 1820. In this function he made attempts to produce quick lime , as well as the deposits for the necessary raw material.

To this end, he discovered a suitable marl lime deposit in the Glemmtal in Schwoich near Kufstein . For this purpose, Kink built a cement plant near the quarry. In 1842 the plant had two kilns, a stamping mill and a grinder. The plant had an annual production of 70 railroad cars. Initially only roman cement was produced.

Kink is considered to be the founder of the cement industry in the entire Austrian Empire . His son Anton Kink (1820–1868) and his nephew Julius von Kink (1848–1909) were also very involved in cement production. His brother Martin Ritter von Kink was an important architect.

The Portland cement production was in Austria but its roots in 1860 in Perlmoos near Kufstein that with the establishment of the kk priv. Hydraulic lime and Portland Cement factory Perlmoos Actiengesellschaft was continued.
