Maria Seissl

Maria "Mia" Seissl (* 1959 in Schwoich ) is an Austrian librarian and has been the head of the university library at the University of Vienna since 2005 .

Life

Maria Seissl studied English at the University of Innsbruck and finished her studies in 1991 with a thesis on "German modal particles and their English equivalents" . After graduating, she began her professional career as a librarian at the University and State Library of Tyrol . From 1996 to 1999 she headed the specialist library for German studies in Innsbruck . On January 1, 2000, Seissl moved to the library of the University of Vienna and one year later became the second deputy library director. 2004 interim and formally in 2005 she succeeded Ilse Dosoudil as director of the University Library Vienna.

Seissl has been active in various functions for many years on the Presidium of the Association of Austrian Librarians . Among other things, she held the office of Vice President from 2002 to 2013 and 2017 to 2019.
