Hans Scupin

Hans Scupin (born April 29, 1869 in Ottendorf , Silesia , † November 22, 1937 in Seddin (near Potsdam) ) was a German geologist .

Life

He was the son of a landowner. After graduating from high school in Breslau in 1888, he studied natural sciences and mathematics in Breslau, Heidelberg and Berlin , most recently with a focus on geology and paleontology. During his studies he became a member of the VDSt Breslau and the VDSt Heidelberg . In 1895 he received his doctorate and became an assistant at the University of Breslau . In 1899 he completed his habilitation in Halle (Die Spiriferen Deutschlands), where he became a professor in 1908. In 1917/18 he was at the front as a military geologist , for which he received the Iron Cross 2nd class.

In 1918 he became a professor in Dorpat , where he taught until 1927, but at the same time became honorary professor in Halle, where he taught from 1928 to 1935. In 1925 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina . He died after a car accident.

In addition to his academic work, he worked as an appraiser for lignite and potash mining .
