Hans Strobel (folklorist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Strobel (born November 28, 1911 in Heinersreuth ; † December 24, 1944 in Cherain ) was a German folklorist and since 1941 head of the office “Folklore and Celebration” in the Rosenberg office .

Strobel was a member of the NSDAP (since December 1, 1930, membership number 387.719) and the SS (since January 1, 1931, membership number 15.590).

He received his doctorate from the University of Erlangen in 1933 .

He was a National Socialist, the folklore among ethnic business -wissenschaftlichen aspects. From 1937 he headed the “Training” department in the Working Group for German Folklore and wrote about this topic in the Spielschar , a magazine for party and leisure activities published by the Reich Youth Leadership of the NSDAP . He tried to negate all Christian elements in customs and attacked "confessional" folklore. This culminated in 1933 in a dispute between Strobel and the Munich Archbishop, Michael Cardinal von Faulhaber . Faulhaber was of the opinion that there could be no talk of an actual pre-Christian Germanic era after Tacitus. For Strobel, on the other hand, the basic meaning of “Carnival” was related to fertility.

Strobel was head of the special staff folklore in the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg . He fell on December 24, 1944 with the rank of SS-Untersturmführer during the Ardennes offensive .

After the end of the war, several of Strobel's writings were placed on the list of literature to be segregated in the Soviet occupation zone .
