Hans Volkelt

Hans Volkelt (born June 4, 1886 in Basel , † January 18, 1964 in Göppingen ) was a German psychologist and educator at the University of Leipzig . He was a staunch National Socialist .

Life

The son of the philosopher Johannes Volkelt attended the König-Albert-Gymnasium in Leipzig. In 1912 he received his doctorate at the University of Leipzig on the ideas of animals. Since 1921 he was a private lecturer there, received an associate professor in 1925. Professorship, in 1930 a scheduled extraordinary professorship in developmental psychology and political education. Since 1932 he was a member of the NSDAP and in 1933 became acting head of the Pedagogical Institute at the University of Leipzig for elementary school teacher training in addition to his duties in the psychological institute. In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler . In 1935/36 the Pedagogical Institute was converted into a college for teacher training . Volkelt wanted to stay at the university, but did not get a full professorship against the opposition of Theodor Litt . From 1934 to 1938 he worked at the NSLB as Reichsfachschaftsleiter for the socio-educational professions, which meant that he had an influence on the development of the kindergarten. He was considered a historical expert on Froebel and headed the Froebel Society. In 1939, under Volkelt's direction, a separate psychological-pedagogical institute was set up. From 1935 to 1938 he was editor of the specialist magazine Kindergarten . He had an advanced game material developed.

After 1945 he was released from the Soviet occupation zone, but continued to publish, among other things, on holistic psychology and lived as Professor i. R. in Bietigheim .

His writing The Reorganization of the Saxon Academic Elementary School Teacher Training (Beck, Munich 1933) was placed on the list of literature to be segregated in the Soviet occupation zone .
