Hans von Amberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans von Amberg (* before 1470, probably in Amberg ; † around 1509 ) was a German stonemason . He is probably identical with Hans Krafuss .

Hans von Amberg has been traceable since 1470, he was parlier (senior journeyman) of the master Klaus von Feldkirch during the construction of the sacrament house in Chur . There he was possibly working on the new St. Regula building from 1494–1500 , since in 1491 he applied with B. Belgeri to succeed S. Klein.

From 1489 he was commissioned by Frederick the Wise with several works. Among other things, he made three statues (pictures) and a plaque for the Church of Our Lady in Torgau. In 1492, as a carver, he had to decorate the carved room in Wittenberg Castle . For this he received in 1493 a payment for a table and two boxes (chests). From 1493 to 1495 he had Leipzig specialists, three of whom he employed for a year and the third for two years, to carry out the work and only came now and then to inspect the progress or his journeymen to guide. Albrecht Dürer is said to have painted these figures. During the Seven Years' War these works of art were destroyed by a fire in the castle.
