Hansjörg Schneider (born December 20, 1925 in Reitzendorf ; † June 17, 2011 in Berlin ) was a theater scholar and theater historian, founder of the small theater in Berlin-Mitte and a writer .

Life

Hansjörg Schneider was the son of a teacher, he attended the elementary school in Reitzendorf and from 1936 the Freiherrlich von Fletcher high school in Dresden . He also took acting lessons from 1942 with Erich Ponto , which he continued after his service as a soldier (1943–1945). From 1947 he worked at various theaters in the Soviet Zone / GDR as an actor, dramaturge, director and director.

From 1956 to 1960 he studied German and theater studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Schneider then worked as senior director and from 1963 to 1967 as press officer and advertising manager at the Komische Oper Berlin (artistic director Walter Felsenstein ). From 1968 to 1990 he was a research associate of the Academy of Arts of the GDR and in 1977 with a thesis exile theater in Czechoslovakia Dr. phil. PhD.

In 1968 he founded the Small Theater Berlin-Mitte with his wife Siggi Brennemann .

Schneider's numerous publications concern the subjects of “Exile Theater 1933–1945”, the Sudeten German theaters in Bohemia and Moravia and the Dresden theaters in the 20th century. From his retirement in 1990 he worked with the "Walter-A-Berendsohn Research Center for German Exile Literature" at the University of Hamburg , which was established in 1999 at KG Saur , Munich, with the support of the German Research Foundation and the P. Walter Jacob Foundation two-volume “Handbuch des deutschsprachigen Exiltheater 1933–1945” published.

In July 2007 Schneider handed over his collection on theater history to the Dresden City Archives .
