Live and act
Harald Bruhn was born on November 27, 1841 in Schleswig as the son of the publisher Moritz Bruhn . So far nothing is known about his training. At the age of 25, Bruhn founded his own publishing house in 1866 at Dammstrasse No. 217 in Braunschweig ( Bruhn's publishing house ). In addition, in 1869 he took over his father's printing press and in 1870 acquired the Leibrock'sche Hofbuchhandlung . On January 1, 1872, his father took him on as a partner in the CA Schwetschke & Sohn publishing house . From May 1, 1876, Bruhn was the sole owner and sold the publishing house nine years later, on July 1, 1885, to the Braunschweig booksellers Wiegandt and Eugen Appelhans . He retained some publishing rights with the sale and transferred them to Bruhn's publishing house . On August 9, 1900, Harald Bruhn committed suicide by being shot in the heart in his own bed.
In addition to guides and school books, Harald Bruhn mainly published works from the fields of medicine and natural sciences. These included B. the journal for scientific microscopy and microscopic technology published by Wilhelm Julius Behrens (1854-1903) , Paul Clemens von Baumgartens textbook of pathological mycology (1890) and the textbook of microphotography by Richard Neuhauss (1890, 2nd edition 1898) and Wilhelm Borchers reference book Elektro-Metallurgie: The extraction of metals by means of the electric current (1891, 2nd edition 1896).
The manuscripts offered by the librarian Eduard Bodemann (1827–1906), who was born in Ohrum near Wolfenbüttel , who wanted to publish a portrait of Duke Julius von Braunschweig's life in 1876, are of regional interest . In 1884 Bruhn corresponded with the city archivist Ludwig Hänselmann about the plans for the book Remembrance Days from Brunswick History , which should contain compilations of famous Brunswick people. In the end, both book projects were not realized.
