Richard Neuhauss

Richard Gustav Neuhauss (born October 17, 1855 in Blankenfelde ; † February 9, 1915 in Groß-Lichterfelde ) was a German doctor and, as an anthropologist, a promoter of scientific photography.

Richard Neuhauss studied medicine in Heidelberg and Berlin. At the University of Leipzig , he was in 1883 for Dr. med. PhD . He was married.

In 1884 he went on a world tour. From 1904 he was established as a general practitioner in Berlin-Lichterfelde. As an anthropologist, he is particularly interested in scientific photography. In 1894 he became director and editor of the Photographische Rundschau . During these years he received a professorship (probably "eh").

From 1908 to 1910 he did research in German New Guinea . In 1909 he went on an expedition to the Laewomba area with several missionaries . He then did research in the area of ​​the Huon Gulf . On the Sepik he meets the botanist Richard Schlechter and Otto Schlaginhaufen . During this time he wrote a three-volume work.

In 1914 he was planned as a member of the planned German-English airship expedition to explore New Guinea. He was also a member of the Berlin Society for Anthropology, Ethnology and Prehistory .

After the outbreak of the First World War, he headed an epidemic station in Berlin-Lichterfelde. While doing this job he died of a diphtheria infection .
