Harald Madsen (born November 20, 1890 in Silkeborg , † July 13, 1949 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish actor . He became internationally known in the role of Patachon for the comedian duo Pat & Patachon .

Life

At the age of 14 he developed his acting talent and went to the traveling circus. In the next eleven years he became a well-known artist. Harald Madsen traveled all over Europe in his unpopular role of the circus clown. During the European tour, many filmmakers became aware of him, until the director Lau Lauritzen senior was among the audience with the producer of the Palladium Filmgesellschaft. They quickly realized that the fat little clown was the best fit for Carl Schenstrøm .

In 1920 the tall, thin man and the short, fat man became Pat and Patachon , and the audience was delighted with the fun and entertaining manner they both played. Although Carl was already an actor, unlike Harald, they enjoyed great success together for the next 15 years.

With the fortune that he earned from it, he fulfilled his dream and founded his own circus. By the late 1930s, he struggled with many long illnesses, his marriage was broken, his circus went bankrupt and he developed mental health problems.

Madsen ended up living secluded in a circus wagon . In 1947 he was supposed to revive the comedian duo with another partner , but they were unsuccessful. He died in 1949 at the age of 58. His grave is on Hørsholm Kirkegård by Hørsholm , Hovedstaden region , on Zealand .
