Harald Neubert

Harald Neubert (born February 6, 1932 , † August 19, 2009 ) was a German historian and author.

Life

A carpenter by trade, Neubert studied from 1949 to 1952 at the workers and farmers faculty in Halle . This was followed by a study of history in Leningrad from 1952 to 1957. From 1958 to 1963 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for General History at the Humboldt University in Berlin . In 1964 he received his doctorate there with a thesis on the early Middle Ages of Italy. Ten years later he received his habilitation on the history of the recent Italian labor movement. From 1974 to 1989 he was director of the Institute for International Labor Movement at the Academy for Social Sciences at the Central Committee of the SED .

In 1987, Neubert was a participant in the talks about the joint paper of the SPD and SED The dispute of ideologies and common security .

Neubert dealt with Antonio Gramsci , among others . After the fall of the Wall , he was primarily concerned with the question of why socialism had failed. In addition, he was active throughout his life as an editor of various writings and works by other theorists and politicians, u. a. the speeches by Palmiro Togliatti .

Harald Neubert was a member of the Left Party until his death . Here he was mainly active in the party's policy committee, in the working group for peace and international politics, as well as in the council of elders and in the Marxist forum.
