Harald Schweitzer

Harald Schweitzer (born April 18, 1948 in Wirges ) is a German SPD politician .

Schweitzer has been a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1987 . He represents constituency 6 ( Montabaur ). His father was the former SPD chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate, Hans Schweitzer .

Education, work and family

Schweitzer graduated from high school in Montabaur in 1969. From 1969 he studied at the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Education (EWH) in Koblenz , where he passed his first state examination in 1972 . The second state examination followed in 1975. He then worked as a teacher and was vice rector in 1979 until he became a member of the state parliament in 1987.

Schweitzer is married and has one child.

Schweitzer has been a member of the SPD since 1967. From 1972 to 1980 he was chairman of the local SPD association in Wirges and at the same time a member of the SPD regional committee for Rhineland / Hesse-Nassau.

Schweitzer has been a member of the Westerwaldkreis district council since 1974 - and since 1980 chairman of the SPD district parliamentary group. From 1974 to 1979 he was also a member of the Wirges city council. In 1984 he was re-elected to the city council. Since 1990 he has been chairman of the SPD city council group.

In 1987 Schweitzer was elected as a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament. From 1991 to 1993 he was chairman of the Committee on Education and Culture. Since 1998 he has been chairman of the interior committee.
