Hans Schweitzer

Hans Schweitzer (born July 1, 1920 in Frankfurt am Main ; † August 24, 1988 in Wirges ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending school, Schweitzer first completed a commercial apprenticeship. He then did Reich labor service , was drafted into the Wehrmacht and took part in the Second World War as a soldier . Most recently he was taken prisoner, from which he returned in 1947. After his release from captivity, Schweitzer started working for the union. Later he was district chairman of the IG Chemie, Papier, Keramik Rheinland-Pfalz / Saarland .

Political party

Schweitzer joined the SPD in 1953 and was state chairman of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate from 1977 to 1979 .

MP

Schweitzer was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament in 1967 and had been chairman of the committee for social affairs, health and sport there since 1971. He later served as Vice President of the State Parliament.

Honors

In 1987 Schweitzer was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with a star . The state of Rhineland-Palatinate honored him with the award of the Freiherr vom Stein plaque .
