Harald Sterk (born April 21, 1938 , † December 18, 1991 ) was an Austrian cultural journalist who lived in Vienna .

Life

The son of the deputy Arbeiter-Zeitung editor -in- chief and resistance fighter Josef Sterk (1903–1981) and his wife Friederike Elisabeth Sterk († 1980) made a name for themselves as the cultural editor of the social-democratic Arbeiter-Zeitung and as the head of architecture for the ORF , the state radio and television company Austria. He was the author of several publications on cultural and industrial history, some of which showed a "sponsored" character.

Sterk made himself an advocate of the comprehensive renovation of the Rüdigerhof in Vienna- Margareten (5th district), where he also lived. (His house was a few hundred meters away from the Vorwärts building , where the AZ editorial office was based until 1986 and where the archive for the history of the labor movement is now.)

Sterk was married to the cultural manager Gerda Themel who, after his death from 1996 to 2003, served as a social democratic member of the Vienna state parliament and local council .

Sterk was cremated and his ashes were buried on January 7, 1992 in the urn grove of the Simmering fire hall (department 3, ring 2, group 5, number 29). The ashes of his mother and father had previously been buried in this urn grave.

In 2004, a small alley by the Vienna River in the 5th district, connecting the Rechten Wienzeile to Schönbrunner Strasse, was named Sterkgasse in memory of Josef and Harald Sterk .
