Haraldssund
Haraldssund ( Danish name : Haraldsund ) is a place in the Faroe Islands on the north island of Kunoy . It is located on the Haraldssund strait of the same name .

Haraldssund is located on the east coast of Kunoy and is connected to the place Kunoy connected on the west coast via a tunnel. A road embankment leads east from Haraldsund to the island of Borðoy with the regional center of Klaksvík . Both the tunnel and the dam were not built until the late 1980s.
In 1860 there were five houses in the village. The families who lived here were also named after their names:
- Har Uttari
- Har Innari
- Har Suðuri (Har Suður)
- Á Gørðum
- Bygningurin
Two kilometers south there is a small ruin. It is said that a colony of Dutch settlers used to exist here.
An easy hiking trail leads from Haraldssund along the southern tip of the island a little above the shore to Kunoy Ort. It used to be the only land connection before the tunnel was built. Another hiking trail also leads north along the shore to the deserted town of Skarð .
Traditionally Haraldssund was the place where every year the Kyndilsmessa ( Candlemas on February 2) was held. In the 1980s, attempts were made to revive this tradition, but this did not succeed because of the relatively remote location of the place. In 2007 one tries again to invite the Faroese to Haraldssund, where there will be Faroese dance .
