Haram was a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Møre og Romsdal . The administrative center of the municipality was Brattvåg. Other larger towns were Austnes, Vatne and Søvik. As part of the municipal reform in Norway , Haram, Sandøy , Skodje and Ørskog were merged with Ålesund , the largest city in Møre og Romsdal, on January 1, 2020 .

Haram was north of Ålesund and south of Molde, the administrative center of the county. 9383 inhabitants lived in an area of ​​261.13 km² (as of January 1, 2019). The municipality number was 1534. The last mayor was Vebjørn Krogsæter ( Sp ).

Neighboring municipalities were Midsund , Vestnes , Skodje, Ålesund, Giske and Sandøy.

Economy and Transport

The capital Brattvåg is an important industrial center. Rolls-Royce and shipbuilding company Aker Yards have factories here . Rolls Royce Deck Machinery Brattvåg is the world's largest manufacturer of winches.

The most important traffic connection is the Reichsstraße 659, there are also ferries to the surrounding islands.

The Fjørtoft boat ( Norwegian Fjørtoftbåten ) was recovered from a moor on the island of Fjørtofta in 1940 .

  • There is an octagonal wooden church from the 19th century on Haramsøy Island . Some of the furnishings come from an old stave church .

  • Hamnsundhelleren is a cave where tools from the Stone Age were found.
