Harold Dorman

Harold Kenneth Dorman ( December 23, 1926 - October 8, 1988 ) was an American rock and roll singer and composer .

Life

Dorman grew up in a small town called Drew in the US state of Mississippi . He wrote a song called Mountain of Love , which he recorded under the Rita record label in 1960. The song became a chart hit that same year, peaking at No. 7 on the US R&B Singles Chart and No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. Although it was Dorman's sole hit, Mountain of Love proved to be a popular song for cover versions ; Charley Pride , Johnny Rivers and Ronnie Dove reached the US charts. It was also recorded by Bruce Springsteen , The Beach Boys , Tommy Cash, and Narvel Felts .

Dorman died in October 1988, at the age of 61.

Bear Family Records put on an album by Dorman in 1999.
