Tommy Cash (born April 5, 1940 in Dyess , Arkansas ) is an American country singer and musician .

Career

He watched his brother Johnny Cash, who was eight years older than him, play the guitar and initially played occasionally at school parties. At the age of 18 he joined the US Army and was stationed in Frankfurt am Main for a while, where he hosted his own radio show Stickbuddy Jamboree at AFN .

In the mid-1960s he appeared in army clubs and temporarily played together with Hank Williams Jr. In 1969 he had his first and biggest hit: Six White Horses , a song about the assassinations of Martin Luther King , John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy , which reached # 4 on the country charts and # 79 on the pop charts. This was followed in 1970 by two more top 10 hits, Rise And Shine (9th place) and One Song Away (9th place). Cash reached the top 20 with two other titles, 1971 with So This Is Love and 1973 with I Recall A Gypsy Woman . Cash's latest hit, She Met A Stranger, I Met A Train reached number 21 on the country charts in early 1974.
