The Harpies (French: Ruisseau des Harpies ) are a river in France that runs in the Nord department in the Hauts-de-France region . The river rises under the name Ruisseau à Grenouilles on the municipal boundary of Landrecies and Locquignol in the forest area Fôret Domaniale de Mormal . It generally drains in a north-westerly direction through the Avesnois Regional Nature Park , changes its name again to Hirondelle Majeure and flows under its definitive name after a total of 24 kilometers in the municipality of Vendegies-sur-Écaillon as a left tributary into the Écaillon .
