Harri Tiido

Harri Tiido (born October 8, 1953 in Jõhvi ) is an Estonian journalist and diplomat.

Tiido graduated from Tallinn School in 1971 . He then studied English at the University of Tartu . After completing his studies, he started working as a journalist for Eesti Raadio and later for Kuku Raadio in 1980 . From 1996 to 1997 Tiido also worked for Voice of America . From 1997 to 2000 he was editor-in-chief at Kuku Raadio.

In 2000 Tiido became Undersecretary of State for Security Policy in the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and remained so until 2003 when he became Estonian Ambassador to NATO . In 2007 he was replaced in this position by Jüri Luik .

March 2008 he was accredited as the first Estonian ambassador to Afghanistan . He resided in Tallinn . He held this post until 2011.

From 2011 to 2014 Harri Tiido was Estonian Deputy Ambassador to the European Union . From 2014 to 2018 he was the Estonian ambassador to Poland . In 2018 he became the Estonian ambassador to Finland . At the end of July 2020, he resigned from his post. In addition to his age, he gave reasons for disagreement with the Estonian government, to which the right-wing political party EKRE belongs as a junior partner. She was responsible for the deterioration in Estonian-Finnish relations. At the end of 2019, the then chairman of the EKRE and interior minister Mart Helme questioned the competence of the Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin in derisive words, but survived a subsequent vote of no confidence in parliament .

Harri Tiido is married and has one daughter. He speaks English , Finnish and Russian .
