history

The beginnings

The trained machine fitter Harro Höfliger (1937–2019) started his own business in 1975 in Stuttgart- Untertürkheim . In his backyard garage, he overhauled used cartoning machines for resale. From 1976 the company traded as Harro Höfliger Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH with headquarters in Backnang. In parallel to the used trade, own packaging machines were developed and manufactured. Marianne Höfliger was in charge of the commercial management. In 1979 the company moves to Allmersbach im Tal. In 1983 Manfred Reiser joined the company as managing director of construction. The business field expanded increasingly from standard machines and packaging lines for the food and beverage industry to individual production systems for pharmaceutical companies.

1990s

In 1990, for the first time, more systems were manufactured for the pharmaceutical industry than for the food sector. In addition to capsule filling and weighing machines, Höfliger also added web processing machines for the production of transdermal plasters and medical wound care to its range. In 1994 the first foreign subsidiary was established in Doylestown , Pennsylvania (USA).

2000s

The machine portfolio includes combinable modules for individual production solutions through to final packaging. In 2003 a laboratory for the analysis of inhalable powder during production was set up, and in 2005 the establishment of a pharmaceutical development service started. In-house clean rooms enable the production facilities to be operated with active ingredients under practical ambient conditions. Höfliger arranged the company's succession early on: In 2001, Markus Höfliger, Thomas Weller and Peter Claussnitzer were appointed to the management. After Marianne Höfliger's death in 2006, the management was restructured: Thomas Weller took over the position of CEO , Markus Höfliger became CFO and Peter Claussnitzer CTO . Uwe Amann (Human Resources) and Heinrich Havenstein (Production) have been part of the management team since 2008. The failed takeover by ATS Automation Tooling Systems led to restructuring in the following years and the establishment of a company alliance.

In 2013, company founder Harro Höfliger brought his company shares into a family foundation and withdrew from day-to-day operations. In 2018 he took over the chairmanship of the newly established supervisory board . After leaving office, Markus Höfliger moved to the head of the supervisory body in January 2019. Turgay Güngormus became the new CFO.

Partnerships

Since April 2011, Harro Höfliger has been part of the Alliance Excellence United , a partnership of technically leading family companies in special machine construction for the pharmaceutical, medical technology and process industries. The alliance consists of the companies Bausch + Ströbel , Fette Compacting , Glatt , Harro Höfliger and Uhlmann , each of which is the market leader in its field.
