Harro Kieser

Harro Kieser (born March 5, 1939 in Riesa ) is a Germanist , historian and academic librarian .

Life

The son of the linguist Otto Kieser studied German and history at the Universities of Marburg and Bonn . He then completed his legal clerkship for the higher library service and worked at the German National Library from 1966 to 2002 . There he mainly worked in the German Exile Archive 1933–1945 and in the exhibition department. His German research focuses on exile literature , Carl Zuckmayer and children's and youth literature . In addition, he accompanied various lexicographical projects such as the lexicon of German-Jewish authors as a member of the scientific advisory board or the second edition of the first editions of German poetry by Wilpert / Gühring and worked on various lexicons, especially the Biographical Handbook of German-Speaking Emigration after 1933 = International biographical dictionary of Central European émigrés 1933–1945 (Volume 2: The arts, sciences, and literature, Munich et al. 1983, and the Lexicon of the entire book industry (Stuttgart 1987–2016)). In the field of historical studies, he is interested in the cultural and intellectual history of Central Germany , especially the state of Saxony-Anhalt . This is particularly evident in his work for the Central German Cultural Council, which he joined in 1987 and whose fate he has been co-determining since 1994 as Chairman of the Foundation Council. In addition, he oversees the Foundation's publication projects and has a decisive influence on the Central German Yearbook.
