Harry Pleva

Harry Pleva (born July 29, 1929 in Stuttgart ; † January 5, 2017 there ) was a German composer , pianist and conductor .

Harry Pleva was married three times and had two sons and a daughter (†).

Life

Harry Pleva was born on July 29, 1929 in Stuttgart as the son of the businessman and amateur musician Ernst Pleva. After his mother died of diphtheria in 1935, his father married the ballet master Anni Marks-Pleva. Two more children emerged from this marriage: his half-sister Doris Pleva followed in her mother's footsteps as a ballet dancer. Half-brother Jörg Pleva became a well-known television and theater actor.

Harry began taking piano lessons at the age of 5, first from his father and later from Professor Bertle in Stuttgart. Harry Pleva appeared on stage for the first time in front of an audience at the age of seven. In 1946, at the age of 17, he was admitted to the Stuttgart University of Music after a special examination for gifted students . The aim of the course was to train as a concert pianist.

At the age of 20 he married his first wife Susanne and had two children with her. In order to be able to support his family despite his studies, he began to earn a living as a jazz musician. He played mainly in the clubs and events of the American barracks in and around Stuttgart.

After completing his studies in 1961, he got a permanent position at the Stuttgart State Opera and was musical assistant to the general music director Ferdinand Leitner until 1968 .

In the 1960s Harry Pleva founded the Harry Pleva Choir and the Harry Pleva Orchestra with colleagues from the State Theater, with which he made numerous recordings.

From 1968 to 1970 he was the first Kapellmeister of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. There he met his second wife, the singer Isy Orén . Harry Pleva also had a son with her.

From 1970 Pleva worked as Kapellmeister, répétiteur and solo repetitor at the Staatstheater Stuttgart , among others . From 1973 onwards he was also a lecturer at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart for score studies and accompaniment.

From 1972 to 2001 he was musical director and conductor of the Montanara Choir . In addition to numerous television productions, Harry Pleva also took his singers to concert halls at home and abroad.

In the course of his life he played as a song accompanist with many well-known artists, such as B. Hermann Prey , Ruth-Margret Pütz , Eva Randová or Prof. Ludwig Hoelscher .

In 1994 he married his third wife Heidemarie.

It was Eva Randová who brought Harry Pleva to the Prague State Opera in 1997 during her time as artistic director . There Pleva led the operetta Die Fledermaus and went with the 1998 Japan tour.
