Harry Ralton

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Harry Ralton (born May 2, 1897 in Breslau as Karl Heinz Rosenthal , † April 8, 1953 ) was a German composer, pianist and author.

Life

Karl Heinz Rosenthal worked as a composer under the stage name "Harry Ralton". In addition to dance and light music, Ralton also wrote compositions for radio plays and revues and for the newly introduced sound film. In 1929/30 Ralton worked intensively with Max Ophüls at the " Schlesische Funkstunde " in Breslau under the director of Fritz Walter Bischoff . He wrote the music for revues on political and cultural topics that Ophüls, who was then senior director at the Breslauer Schauspielhaus, staged there. These were transmitted directly from the "Schlesische Funkstunde". Ophüls, who had already started working for radio earlier, had a regular radio column (“Theaterplauderei”) at the Breslauer Sender and produced, mostly together with Ralton, monthly cabaret magazines. After moving to Berlin in January 1931, he worked for the " Berliner Funkstunde ".

Ralton wrote politically committed songs that were sung by Ernst Busch . After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, Ralton had to leave Germany. He emigrated to England. There he became a naturalized British citizen. In the 1940s he ran his own small music publisher (“Arcadia Music”) in London. In 1948 he finally gave up his maiden name in favor of his stage name. Ralton died in England on April 8, 1953.
