Work and life

Hartmut Ring was born on September 19, 1946 in Neumünster ( Schleswig-Holstein ). He passed his Abitur in 1966 at the Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in Darmstadt . Then he began to study mathematics at the TH Darmstadt . However, in 1968, after completing his undergraduate studies, he moved to the University of Freiburg to continue his studies , where he completed his studies in 1971 with a thesis in the field of model theory .

From 1971 to 1974 Hartmut Ring worked as a research assistant at the Mathematical Research Institute in Oberwolfach . In 1973 he received his doctorate from the Technical University of Karlsruhe on automaton theory and formal languages . He finally got his first job in the private sector in 1974. At Siemens , he dealt with questions in the field of computational linguistics ; he researched and implemented approaches to the syntactic and semantic analysis of natural language by computers.

In 1978 Hartmut Ring took up a professorship in Siegen. His teaching there included courses on discrete mathematics , linear algebra , XML , GUI programming and the programming languages Python , C ++ , C # and Java . During these years of activity u. a. two textbook publications. Furthermore, a free math software called mathGUIde came from this time .

At the beginning of the 1990s , Hartmut Ring began developing software for IT-supported music notation on a part-time basis . The program was initially published under the name Allegro , but has been called capella since 1992 . Alongside Finale and Sibelius, capella is now one of the best-known products in this category and has firmly established itself on the German market.
