Hartmut Rothe

Hartmut Rothe (* 1944 ) is a German biologist and retired professor of anthropology at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen .

Life

Rothe studied anthropology, paleontology , anatomy and geology at the Saarland University and then at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . In 1971 he graduated in Kiel his studies with a doctorate of Doctor of Science from. He was then employed as a research assistant at the institutes for anthropology at the Universities of Kiel and Göttingen . In 1980 he received his habilitation in anthropology in Göttingen and in 1987 he was appointed adjunct professor for anthropology.

Rothe was head of the primate ethology working group at the Göttingen Institute for Anthropology and until it was dissolved - as a result of his retirement in 2008 - at the same time head of a primate husbandry established in 1973 , which was housed in the Sennickerode ethological station from 1995 . His main areas of work were the tribal history of primates including humans and the behavioral biology of non-human primates, in particular the common marmoset monkey , which lived in large colonies in the Sennickerode field station. Rothe was also the author and co-author of numerous publications on human tribal history .
