Hartmut "Hardy" Vogtmann (born October 16, 1942 in Essen ) is a German agricultural scientist and nature conservationist .

Life

science

After an apprenticeship as a bricklayer , Hartmut Vogtmann studied agriculture and food science at the ETH Zurich from 1963 to 1967 , received his doctorate and worked there as a research assistant . From 1971 he conducted research at the University of Alberta in Edmonton (Canada).

From 1974 on, Vogtmann headed the Research Institute for Organic Agriculture (FibL) in Oberwil . From 1981 he was a professor in the agricultural department at the University of Kassel , where he held the first nationwide chair for organic farming .

Vogtmann is considered a pioneer for organic farming in Germany and beyond. He has also been advising the British heir to the throne Prince Charles in this area since the 1980s .

In 1994 Hartmut Vogtmann became President of the Hessian State Office for Regional Development and Agriculture. After the office was dissolved in 2000, he was President of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation until 2007 .

From 2008 to 2009 Vogtmann was managing director of the Association of Cardboard Packaging for Liquid Food (FKN). The association represents the interests of the manufacturers of beverage cartons active in Germany - Tetra Pak , SIG Combibloc and Elopak .

Since 2008, Hartmut Vogtmann was 1st Vice President of the umbrella environmental association Deutscher Naturschutzring , from December 2012 to February 2015 he was president of this association.
