Harvey D. Williams
Harvey D. Williams (* 1864 in Shaftsbury , Connecticut , † March 9, 1931 in Meriden , Connecticut) was an American engineer and inventor .
From 1890 to 1898 he was a lecturer at Cornell University . In 1905, together with Reynold Janney, he developed a hydrostatic transmission in axial piston design, in which mineral oil was used as the transmission medium for the first time , thus establishing oil hydraulics .
In 1919 he received the Howard N. Potts Medal from the Franklin Institute of Philadelphia .
William died on March 9, 1931 at the age of 66.
