The Haselgraben is a valley in the Mühlviertel in Upper Austria with a length of almost 10 km. Starting in the urban area of Linz , it runs north to the municipality of Hellmonsödt . The Haselbach flows through it.

Lichtenberg is to the west of the valley . As one of the northern Linz arterial roads, the B 126 Leonfeldener Straße leads through Haselgraben and also passes the Wildberg castle ruins , overcoming an altitude difference of around 500 meters and reaching the highest point at Glasau at around 780 m above sea level.

Boundary line

The Haselgraben is traditionally seen as the border between the Upper and Lower Mühlviertel .

Until 1779 , both parts had existed as independent quarters in Upper Austria. To the west of the Haselgraben was the Mühlviertel , to the east the Machlandviertel . When the Innviertel fell to Upper Austria with the Treaty of Teschen in 1779 , Mühlviertel and Machlandviertel were merged under the name Mühlviertel so that four quarters continued to exist. The old division by the Haselgraben as a natural border continues to exist in the separation between the upper (western) and lower (eastern) Mühlviertel.
