The Hasetal is a recreation area in Lower Saxony . It is named after the river Hase , which rises near Osnabrück and flows into the Ems in Meppen . The Hasetal recreation area extends over parts of the districts of Cloppenburg , Emsland and Osnabrück .

The course of the river is shaped by many oxbow lakes of the Hase, which were created in the 19th century as the course of the river was straightened.
