Hassan Abouyoub ( Arabic حسن أبو أيوب, DMG Ḥasan Abū Ayyūb ; * May 18, 1952 in Berrechid ) is a Moroccan diplomat and politician who was minister and ambassador several times. He has been ambassador to Romania since 2018 .

Career

Hassan Abouyoub, whose parents belong to the Berber ethnic group in Tafraoute , studied international politics and economics at the EMLYON Business School in Lyon (ESC 1974). He then became a member of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, where he became Director of the Department of International Trade in 1980. He represented Morocco in negotiations on the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), with the European Union (EU) and in the Uruguay Round , the eighth world trade round organized by GATT , which took place between 1986 and 1994. From 1990 to 1993 he was Minister for Foreign Trade, Foreign Investment and Tourism (Ministre du Commerce extérieur, des Investissements extérieurs et du Tourisme) in the governments of Prime Minister Azzedine Laraki and from 1992 Mohammed Karim Lamrani .

In 1993 Abouyoub became a member of the Representative Assembly (Chambre des représentants) , but renounced his mandate a year later and was then Ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1994 to 1995 . At the same time he was accredited as ambassador to Djibouti and Somalia between 1994 and 1995 . After his return, Hassan Abouyoub was Minister for Agriculture and Land Reform in the government of Prime Minister Abdellatif Filali between 1995 and 1997 . In this role he held talks with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the EU on fisheries matters and a free trade area between the EU and Morocco for the Moroccan agricultural sector . In 1998 he became an ambassador for trade agreements.

Hassan Abouyoub was then Ambassador to France from November 26, 1999 to January 11, 2005 . In 2010 he replaced Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah as ambassador to Italy and held this post until 2016. Since 2018 he has been ambassador to Romania .
