Veiko-Vello Palm (born May 29, 1971 ) is an Estonian officer with the rank of brigadier general . He has been Chief of Staff of the Estonian Armed Forces since December 5, 2018 . Previously he was u. a. Commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade.

Life

Veiko-Vello Palm was born in 1971 in what was then the Estonian SSR . He finished his school education in Tallinn in 1989 .

Military career

Promotions

Veiko-Vello Palm began his military career with the Estonian Armed Forces in 1992 as a conscript in the Kalevi Infantry Battalion . From 1992 to 1994 he attended the newly established Estonian Academy for Public Security. This training was followed from 1997 to 2001 ( BA ), 2003, 2003 to 2005 ( MA ) and in 2018 several postgraduate courses at the Finnish Military Academy and the Baltic Defense Academy (2018).

At the beginning of his career, Veiko-Vello Palm served in various infantry units in the Estonian armed forces. From 2007 to 2008 he completed his first assignment abroad with ISAF in Afghanistan. In 2008/09, Palm was at the headquarters of the Estonian Armed Forces. He was then deployed to the Multinational Corps North-East from 2009 to 2012 and completed another assignment in Afghanistan in 2009. From 2012 to 2015 he worked in the Estonian Ministry of Defense. From 2015 to 2018 he served as the commander of the 1st Infantry Brigade in Tapa . During this service he was promoted to colonel in February 2017.

Subsequently, Palm moved back to the headquarters of the Estonian armed forces and took over the post of chief of staff from Martin Herem on December 5th . As part of the annual promotions on the anniversary of the establishment of the Estonian Republic, he was appointed Brigadier General in February 2019.

Private

Veiko-Vello Palm is married and has two children. In addition to his mother tongue, he is also proficient in Russian, English and Finnish.
