Hassan Brijany

Hassan Brijany (born April 12, 1961 in Iran ; † July 23, 2020 ) was an Iranian- Swedish actor .

Life

Hassan Brijany grew up in Northern Iran on the Caspian Sea . Originally he was supposed to be a surgeon and decided against the wishes of the family to study acting. In Tehran he completed an acting training. The mid-1980s was forced to leave the country by the social changes of the Islamic Revolution and the First Gulf War . He emigrated to Sweden, where he learned the language within a few months and found work as a translator at the immigration authorities.

From the end of the 1980s, Brijany turned back to acting and found employment as a theater actor at the Angeredteatern in Gothenburg . After a few film and television appearances in the 1990s, he was able to establish himself as a film actor from the turn of the millennium, where he celebrated his greatest success with the literary film Ett öga rött , published in 2007 and directed by Daniel Wallentin . The film is based on the novel of the same name by Jonas Hassen Khemiri and Brijany and was awarded the national film prize Guldbagge for Best Supporting Actor a year later for its portrayal of Halim's father .

On July 23, 2020, Brijany died at the age of 59 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
