Location and landscape
The Hasselkopf is located in the Upper Harz in the Harz Nature Park . It is located on the southern edge of the core town of Braunlage . To the north its landscape slopes down towards Braunlage to the Warmen Bode and to the south to the Brunnenbach . The elevation is largely made up of meadows (such as the Hasselkopfwiesen ), and its slopes are partly covered by forest .
Mountain height
The Hasselkopf is about 620 m high. Topographic maps show a measuring point at around 612 m ( ⊙ ) about 500 m east of its highest point .
Hasselkopf tunnel
The 220 m long Hasselkopf tunnel has been running through the Hasselkopf south of Braunlage since 1995 as part of a shared section of the federal roads 4 and 242 .
Winter sports
There are several ski trails on the Hasselkopf meadows in winter , and a short ski lift and slope on the northern slope enables alpine skiing .
Missile disaster in 1964
On May 7, 1964, Gerhard Zucker organized a demonstration of postal rockets on the Hasselkopf. An explosion caused an accident at the rocket demonstration in Braunlage in 1964 , in which three people were killed.
