Hastings is a city with the status " City " and seat of the county administration ( County Seat ) of Barry County in the US state Michigan with 7304 inhabitants (2013).

Hastings is traversed by the Thornapple River from east to west and is 40 kilometers southeast of Grand Rapids .
history
In 1836 the first settlers settled in the region and named the place after the banker Eurotas P. Hastings also Hastings. In 1869 the city received a railway connection, which was in operation until 1970. The official establishment of the City of Hastings took place on March 11, 1871. The Barry County Courthouse , built in 1836, was added to the National Register of Historic Places , as was the Shriner-Ketcham House and the Daniel Striker House . Additional historic buildings are on the List of Michigan State Historic Sites in Barry County .
Today Hastings is in demand as a quiet and affordable place to live for commuters who are busy in Grand Rapids. Touristic events are also increasingly being organized, including a cycle race, some of which takes place over cobblestones and which is called Berry-Roubaix , based on the important spring classic Paris-Roubaix .
