Haubold from Miltitz

Haubold von Miltitz (born July 30, 1613 in Schenkenberg , † March 21, 1690 in Dresden ) was an Electoral Saxon Chancellor, Real Privy Councilor, Court Marshal, Chamber Councilor and Tax Director. He is one of the most important court officials under Elector Johann Georg II of Saxony.

Life

Haubold von Miltitz came from the Saxon noble family von Miltitz and was the son of the district tax collector Alexander von Miltitz (1578-1635) and his wife Elisabeth, née von Einsiedel (1584-1645).

From 1629 he studied law at the universities of Leipzig and Wittenberg, but also moved to Hamburg, Groningen and Leiden.

In 1645 he became court and judicial councilor at the Dresden court, where in 1653 he received a place in the select committee of the knighthood curia of the state parliament. After Elector Johann Georg II of Saxony took office in 1656, he held various court offices. First he became chancellor, then court marshal in 1660, councilor in 1661 and captain of the Meißnian district in 1664 and director of land and drink tax.

Haubold von Miltitz achieved the highest office in 1680 when he was appointed to the Real Privy Council.

Haubold von Miltitz had taken precautions economically, as he acquired several manors. After leaving his father's estate in Oberau to his brothers, he acquired Scharfenberg, Schenkenberg, Scheerau and, in 1677, the Kroppen estate. In 1681 he also acquired the village of Heinersdorf from the town of Ortrand .

Haubold von Miltitz died in 1690. His funeral sermon appeared in print. Philipp Kilian created a portrait of him.
