Haucana

The Haucana is a mountain peak in the Bolivian Andes east of Lake Titicaca and in the north of the Bolivian seat of government La Paz . At 6200 m, the Haucana is only 227 meters lower than Ancohuma , two kilometers north , which is the third highest mountain in Bolivia and the second highest of the Cordillera Real . Haucana and Ancohuma are connected by a mountain ridge and belong to the Illampú massif . Sometimes the name " Nevado de Sorata " is used for the mountain massif , after the small town Sorata on the western slopes of the Illampú massif.

geography

The Cordillera Real consists of deep rocks from the Paleozoic Era , into which further plutonites penetrated during the Mesozoic Era up to the Tertiary period . These plutonites were exposed by erosion in the Tertiary and Quaternary and today form the peaks of the Illampú massif.

The Haucana, like the Ancohuma, is covered with snow all year round, the snow line is 5200 m.
