The house on Hauptstrasse No. 26 (also called "Haus Rößler") is a historic building located in the city center of the district town of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Building history and architecture

Franz Hubert Rößler, b. 1833, had acquired the house at today's Hauptstrasse 26 between 1871 and 1880 from a watchmaker. He first set up an economy here. When he died in 1900, his son Karl took over the house. He had learned the trade of cook and confectioner. He expanded the range of his offerings by running a pastry shop and café in his house and renting out hotel rooms. His baked goods were widely famous and were also sold in neighboring towns. When it was bought by Franz Hubert Rößler, the two-story building only had a simple brick facade. Around 1900 the stucco ornaments and window frames that still exist today were attached.

House Rößler had a large hall in which many festivities were celebrated. Under the direction of Karl Rößler, it had become the first gastronomic address in Bergheim next to the Hotel Weidenbach at the beginning of the 20th century. The entrance for carriages and vehicles was on Bethlehemer Strasse at the back. The bakery was in the back yard. After Karl Rößler's death in 1935, his widow Klara continued to run the hotel, restaurant, pastry shop and café. However, the hotel was stopped after the Second World War. After Klara Rößler's death in 1954, Franz and Maria, Karl Rößler's children from his first marriage, continued to run the Rößler house. However, the restaurant was leased, as were the other rooms on the ground floor. In 1971 Maria Rößler's son, Karl Edgar, took over house no. 26. In 1972 a snack bar moved into part of the ground floor where the inn had previously been located.

Todays use

Since 1993 the house has belonged to a community of heirs. A relative still lives in the house, namely Karl Staffan Rößler. The whole property was completely renovated in 2004.
