The house at Hauptstrasse 99 in Bergheim was built in the 17th century. The building is also known as the Red House .

Building history and architecture

"Red House" is the name for the three-storey brick building with number 99. The four-axis building essentially belongs to the beginning of the 17th century. Doors and windows have borders from Blaustein . On the left is the entrance to the courtyard with a balcony on consoles above it, which is decorated with lion heads and comes from a later period. The Red House has been combined from two narrower predecessor buildings, because in the Middle Ages and in the early modern period the houses all had their narrow side facing the street.

use

In 1799 the Red House was owned by the brewer Regina Mertens and her family. In 1911 the mayor's secretary Wilhelm Specht lived there with his family. In 1925 it became the property of the district and was used as part of the home building. When the Heimathaus was closed in the early 1970s, the adult education center moved into it. A few years ago it went back into private ownership. The ground floor is now used as a wine bar .
