House Antonstrasse 8 (Dresden)
The house at Antonstrasse 8 in Dresden is a “characteristic cube building of classicism ” built in 1825 . The building on the north side of Antonstrasse between Albertplatz and Neustädter Bahnhof is a listed building and is now used as a restaurant under the name Altes Wettbüro .
history
The house, which is attributed to the architect Thormeyer , was built in the course of Dresden's city expansion after the old fortifications were demolished and belongs to the Old Town Guard , the gatehouses at Leipziger Tor , the Third Belvedere , the domed hall of Pillnitz Palace and the rebuilt Swan House by Woldemar Hermann one of the few classicist buildings in Dresden.
The simple villa was built as a rental house and was temporarily the residence of the family of Major General Hans Oster . In 1932 it was owned by the “Societé Luxembourge”. It survived the Second World War without major damage and from 1952 to 1990 was the headquarters of the editorial office of the daily newspaper “ Saxon Latest News ” (the local editorial office was in the neighboring house at Antonstr. 10). After that, the rooms were temporarily used as a betting office. The music bar and bar "Altes Wettbüro" has been located here since it was closed.

The building was erected as a two-story, five-axis structure with a flat hipped roof . The ground floor is up to the window sill cornice of the upper floor in plaster with a Quaderung been designed and above the upper floor is a Mäandergesims be seen in the cornice. Its facade is emphasized in the central axis by a staircase in the middle.
