History and description
In 1698, Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Hessen founded a glass and mirror manufacture in the hamlet of Mordach for the production of hollow glasses , slugs and mirror panes. The operation of the glass factory turned out to be unprofitable.
In 1705 the buildings were sold and converted into a flour mill. After the mill burned down in 1896, the "Gast- und Kurhaus Burgwald" was built on the site of the fire ruins. The builder was the then mayor of Nieder-Ramstadt , Friedrich Ludwig Schneider.
In 1909 the Schneider family sold the "Villa Burgwald" to the "Association for the Healing of Alcoholics", which ran a healing and rehabilitation facility. Today's "Haus Burgwald" emerged from this facility as a rehabilitation clinic for addicts; this is operated by Haus Burgwald gGmbH as an institution of the Inner Mission Frankfurt am Main.
